Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a fantastic week and are looking forward to the weekend. This week has been pretty great and I’m so excited to share one of our new (to-us) favorite restaurants.
Dan discovered The Flying Monkey through work and I am SO thankful that he did. I found out about it because of an Instagram post a couple of weeks ago where someone mentioned a bottomless mimosa bar which obviously peaked my interest so I did a little research and moved it to the top of my restaurant list. We had actually attended a birthday party here during Whole30 and the food and drinks looked incredible but we couldn’t eat anything.
I have been looking for a brunch location that does Saturday AND Sunday brunch for quite a while. There are a few other places that I’m looking to try (The Place 2 Be, I see you!) but a restaurant that does Saturday brunch is hard to find.
The location of The Flying Monkey is amazing, right at Hartford-Brainard airport, so you can see planes flying in and out throughout your entire meal. Make sure you request a window seat if possible!
We have only been for brunch so far but I look forward to returning to try lunch or dinner sometime very soon. They also have happy hour from 3:30pm-6:30pm Monday-Friday.
The brunch menu is so creative and fun, with a lot of attention paid to detail. My favorite menu item is the Jet Engine Bennies, which come topped with an incredible sriracha hollandaise sauce. Dan is obsessed with the top-OFF burger which is really a quintessential brunch menu item, topped with honey jalapeno infused bacon. Also, get a side of the fried pickles, you will not regret it!
The bottomless mimosa bar is my favorite feature of their brunch menu. You get 1.5 hours to try all kinds of different concoctions with the plethora of juices, mixes, and fruits that they have to mix in. It really becomes a conversation piece when everyone gets creative with different combinations.
I would definitely recommend making a reservation for brunch as it gets busy pretty quick. We usually show up right when brunch starts (10am-2pm) but I have had a few people mention that they came a bit later and there was a pretty long wait.
The Flying Monkey Grill is located at 20 Lindbergh Drive, Hartford, CT 06114. They are open for lunch and dinner, along with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. They have live entertainment on most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, along with Jazz Mondays and Sunday Blues.
Please let me know if you guys visit and what you think!
